An Interesting April Reading Recap

April started off really strong, I read a couple books that I really enjoyed and then immediately hit a wall. I couldn’t seem to find any audiobooks I liked and felt so indecisive about what to read next from my tbr and the month kinda ended on a strange note.

So let’s dive in and chat about it.

In April I read:

  • Viciously Yours by Jamie Applegate Hunter
  • A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen
  • The Witch Collector by Charissa Weaks
  • A Dance With Phantoms by Rowan Locke

Viciously Yours by Jamie Applegate Hunter

Goodreads / Amazon / Storygraph

This book felt like a weird satire of a cross between ACOTAR and an urban fantasy romance novel. Like some of the story was so over the top I could not take this book seriously. Which is probably for the best because the way they consummated that marriage was straight up satire.

You cannot change my mind.

This book was absolutely filthy, over the top, romantic at some points, and cringey, but I could not put the book down.

So for that alone, it gets a solid 3 stars out of 5 stars

A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen

Goodreads / Amazon / Storygraph

I LOVED this book. I listened to the audiobook on Spotify (despite my hatred for how Spotify plays audiobooks) and had such a fun time. Truly, I never wanted to stop listening whenever I had to go back to work or stop to focus.

The tension between the two main characters is freaking chefs kiss, I loved the magic and intrigue and that twist at the end!

Heaven help me.

4.5 stars out of 5 stars because I will be unwell until the next book comes out.

The Witch Collector by Charissa Weaks

Goodreads / Amazon / Storygraph

Oh man. This book started out so interesting for me. There was so much promise and build up and then it all somehow fell flat while being overrun by a plot that strangled the life out of its own story.

I wanted to DNF this book so badly but pretty much stuck around for the spice because I absolutely needed to know what it felt like to be Alexus’s. (The witch collector in question.)

The spice was the last thread holding my attention and I pretty much skimmed everything else.

This book gets 3 stars out of 5 stars from me. If I hadn’t been so invested in seeing what happened with our FMC Raina and our MMC Alexus, I definitely would have DNF’d.

A Dance with Phantoms by Rowan Locke

Goodreads / Amazon

This was a book I did not have on my TBR. The author reached out to me by email and I was interested in the summary and decided to give this book a read!

So a big thank you to Rowan Locke for reaching out and sending me a copy of your book.

I ended up reading this one on Kindle Unlimited (we gotta support our indie authors) and cannot wait to share my thoughts!

I have quite a few thoughts on this one but don’t want to spoil any of them yet. But it felt right up my alley as a fantasy romance that included (consensual) spicy scenes and some tropes I really enjoyed.

All in all, April started out really strong but somewhere along the way I hit a weird slump. Which is unfortunate but compared to last year where I did not read anything in April, this year wasn’t that bad.

I also did not DNF any books this month! That slump hit me hard enough that I didn’t even bother starting any new books.

With all that being said, what have you been reading?
