My First 3 Months on Medium

Feeling a little lackluster since my last update. Before I recap my first 3 months on Medium, check out my first month on Medium. My first month on Medium was an adventure. I was extremely hopeful when I first signed up and despite my initial anxiousness over hitting ‘publish’ I was nonetheless excited. And extremely happy that I decided to just get started. So how am I faring two months since my one-month update? In my opinion, I am doing okay. So let’s jump in. 1. My Writing I don’t want to be too repetitive, but since joining Medium on May 23rd of this year, I have written mostly book reviews…

4 Ways To Never Run Out of Content Ideas

A short list to help the ideas keep coming. Sometimes you just want to create something. An article to post. A video to film. A podcast episode to record. And sometimes the inspiration is there, waiting for us to run off into the sunset with it and create. Other times, not so much. This is for the other times. So let’s jump right in. 1. Freewrite Or as I like to call it, make a list. Make a list of all the things on your mind or all of the things/topics you would like to create content around. Lately, I’ve been writing a lot about work culture and mental health.…

It’s Time to End the Toxic Job Cycle

Should we also put down the two-week notice? Let me preface this by saying that I just left a really toxic job and it made me realize this is the last time I want to go through this. So I wanted to chat about it.  When I first entered the workforce after graduating high school, my mom gave me some classic pieces of advice.  “Always be on time”, “Be respectful”, and “If you plan on leaving, make sure you give them two weeks’ notice”. I spent a couple of years bouncing around in retail positions and babysitting for family friends. The bulk of my early experiences were in jobs with…

    Habits Aren’t for Everybody

It’s okay to create through the chaos. Have you ever felt like you would never measure up to the 1% of top creators because you aren’t consistent, organized, or competent enough? I sure have. I’ve become much more self-aware over the last few years as I prepare to leave behind my twenties and enter a whole new decade of my life. For some background, I thrived in school. I loved the structured environment and “forced” consistency that came with classes, homework and going to school Monday to Friday. Being an adult, however, I have boarded the struggle bus and am dreading my arrival in struggle town. I lack the discipline…

It Wasn’t Worth Trading All of my Creativity for Money

I earned next to nothing by doing so. Like everyone else in 2020, my life was turned upside down. I began to experiment with other ways to make money and work for myself. I was lucky enough to not lose my nanny position and not being able to go anywhere besides work and the grocery store, I suddenly had a lot more time on my hands. I spent the majority of 2020 doing research. Reading and watching videos about others who were starting businesses and doing things that I was becoming increasingly interested in. By the time 2021 rolled around, I felt ready to put my words into action. First…

An Open Letter to my Present Self

And to anyone else who might need some words of encouragement. Dear Self, I know you’ve been feeling lost and I know sometimes it feels as though this phase of your life will never end. There has been so much change, most of it good. You completed that degree you never thought you would. You have been more mindful and your mental health has never been better because of it. It’s okay to feel like you are still in survival mode. But it’s okay to also remind yourself that you aren’t. Don’t do yourself a disservice by forgetting just how far you have come. You may feel tired and you…

Doing Exactly What I Promised I Would

Even if I don’t want to. I’ve had an incredibly frustrating morning. Despite trying not to let it, I’ve allowed my cruddy morning to leak into the tasks I’ve scheduled for the rest of today. I was originally planning to post a book review for “The Love Hypothesis” by Ali Hazelwood. But I’m not feeling it. I feel like a grumpy cat. Waiting for my tortellini to be done so the carbs can try to perk up my mood. Despite my frustration, I made a promise to myself. To write every day. To post every few days. To be consistent. So even though I didn’t want to show up today. Even though…

3 Routines and Systems I Plan to Incorporate Into my life + Ways to Maintain Them

Plus some takeaways to establish or improve your own routines and systems. A routine is defined as “a sequence of actions regularly followed; a fixed program.” I’ll admit, I spent a lot of time mentally planning out things I needed and wanted to do. Then unsurprisingly nothing would change. I realized I needed a routine.  Developing my routines and systems was not easy either. There was a lot of trial and error. A lot of trying to not kick myself. After some time, it’s working and I’m finally able to keep burnout and disappointment at bay.  1. A Mindful Morning Routine Lately, I’ve been doing my best to incorporate two…
