Summary

Thoughts on the Plot

Listen, let’s get one thing out of the way right now. Enchantra is not a book you read for the plot.

Don’t ask me about it. It was there. It was decent. It did what it was supposed to. 

I devoured this story in under 24 hour; that’s how much this story had me in a chokehold. 

There are some interesting subplots that I can see holding more importance in the next book. 

There is no world-building as Enchantra is set in Europe before heading back to Grimm Manor in New Orleans. 

The deadly games of hide and seek became rather repetitive as the book went on, but again, this book is not plot driven. 

I enjoyed the writing and the atmosphere of this book. Though I will say Phantasma had a bit more going for it in the “setting the mood” category. 

However, Enchantra is just as lush and gothic. 

Should you read Phantasma before reading Enchantra? 

My opinion is yes. They are technically standalone’s, but you will go on with knowledge of Phantasma and Genevieve’s story in that game, plus her history with her sister, Ophelia. 

Now let’s get into the stars of the story, shall we?

Thoughts on the Characters

Enchantra is the story of siblings that are cursed under a bargain their father made with a devil to play a cursed game of hide and seek year after year. 

Having to take out each other their siblings because the winner gets to remain free from Hell for a year until the next game begins.

The Silver siblings are equal parts loving towards each other as they are jaded and cutthroat. 

Genevieve is very different from Ophelia. Where I wanted to reach through the book and hug Ophelia, I knew Genevieve could handle herself. 

She is seeking comfort through people with similar experiences, which is how she ends up at Enchantra.

I have also discovered a new favorite trope (if it’s even a trope) which is literally just the MMC saying “my wife” about the FMC. 

Like that’s it. I’m obsessed. 

Genevieve is headstrong, knows what she wants, and isn’t afraid to go for it. But she is also scared and learning to heal from past wounds. 

And Rowin? I forgot all about Blackwell. (I’m so sorry Blackwell! I still love you and Poe!)

But Rowin and Umbra have claimed my heart. Rowin might also be my newest favorite shadow daddy. 

I know, I know. We are all tired of the nearly cringe “shadow daddies” but I am not. Okay?

Rowin not only owns his power, but the shadows in bed????

Again, I thought the scene with Blackwell and Ophelia in bed with the roof situation was hot, think again. 

Rowin and Genevieve had me laughing, scowling, tearing up, rooting for them, and I genuinely just loved their slow burn. 

I also loved all of Rowin’s siblings. They were all written so well and thought some got the spotlight more than others, they all still felt thought out. 

It was also nice to see Ophelia and Blackwell in this book, but they were giving “Married for 50 years with no kids” kinda vibe. 

Like what happened to my babies? 

And we also have familiars in this book. Where Blackwell had his ghost cat, Poe. Rowin has a small, black fox of a familiar named Umbra who I wish was real so I could give her pets. 

Overall Thoughts

Honestly, I would call you at 3 am after staying up all night to read this book just so we could yap about it until sunrise.

Enchantra is definitely one of my favorite reads of the year so far. 

I wish I could go back and read it again for the first time. 

It has its flaws, but at face value, I had such a good time. 

I loved the characters, the games, the competition, the found family, and who knew I could renovate my heart with an add-on for a new shadow daddy? 

Rhys and Azriel have some stiff competition. 

Also, Rowin has piercings. I didn’t even think I’d care until a certain part of the book and then found a new appreciation for piercings.

In all sorts of places. 

Anyway, 6 stars out of 5 stars for Enchantra.
