March 2025 Wrap Up + April Fantasy Romance TBR

I managed to stay on track with my reading goal in March, although audiobooks weren’t really working for me this month. I mostly stuck to reading on my Kindle and a few physical copies.

Here’s my full March reading wrap-up, including mini reviews, plus what I’m currently reading and the books on my April TBR. I’m hoping for better luck with audiobooks this month, so we’ll see how that goes!

A Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

Summary

Overall Thoughts

I wish this series would stop being so boring in the first half. 

I enjoyed Celaena’s growth and the snippets we do begin to learn about her. It makes me even more interested in this series because I can feel it’s going to take a completely different turn. 

The romance didn’t hold my attention in this book, primarily because I was not a fan of who the love interest was. 

A good read, but I feel like this book is just a drop in the bucket that is all that’s to happen in this series. 

So a solid 4 stars out of 5 stars from me. 

The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas

Celaena Sardothien is her kingdom’s most feared assassin. Though she works for the powerful and ruthless assassin’s guild, she yields and trusts no one except her fellow assassin, Sam. 

When Arobynn Hamel, Celaena’s master, sends her on a mission that takes her to remote islands, she finds herself acting independently from Arobynn’s wishes. 

But defying Arobynn comes with a harsh punishment and puts Celaena’s closest friend, Sam, directly in danger. 

This prequel to Throne of Glass features five novellas that weave together Celaena’s early years.

Overall Thoughts

I do wish I had read this one first.

I disliked interrupting the series to go back and I feel like Throne of Glass would have had more of an impact. 

These stories were woven together so cleverly, it truly felt like one long story, rather than 5 short ones. 

This is definitely a required read, and I would not skip it by any means. I have a feeling we are going to see a lot of the characters introduced in this series soon in future books. 

This one gets another 4 stars out of 5 stars. 

A Kiss of Iron by Clare Sager

Summary

Our main character, Kat, is a poor noblewoman who is barely holding on. She is a highway woman by night and a struggling housewife by day. 

When she is suddenly called to court, she discovers it is to be a spy. Her target? The handsomely unnerving Bastian Marwood. 

Bastian is a powerful fae and known as the Night Queen’s Shadow. 

Kat quickly discovers that the games played at court are far more than she can handle. But Kat can’t risk her heart because with it, she risks everything. 

Overall Thoughts

I really like this one. Bastian is up there on my list of book boyfriends as well. 

The writing was a little wordy and sometimes Kat’s character didn’t come off as super consistent. 

The “f*ck these men” attitude in this book is strong and I am. Here. For. It. 

But seriously, did I mention Bastian? OBSESSED. We stan a man who prioritizes consent and will cut out the tongue of anyone who makes fun of his woman for enjoying food. (IYKYK)

The ending was also straight up insane.

And the spice was very well done; the tension had my stomach in knots. 

I immediately dove into the next book, but that one ended up a DNF. 

So while I loved this one, I will not be continuing the rest of the series. 

A solid 3.75 stars out of 5 stars from me. 

Currently Reading

Swordheart by T. Kingfisher

Summary

A quirky and heartfelt fantasy about a widow named Halla who inherits a magical sword—only to discover it comes with a very grumpy warrior bound to it. 

What starts as a chaotic partnership quickly turns into an adventure full of dry humor, danger, and unexpected heart.

Thoughts so far

I am about 80% done with this book at the time of writing and I like the story. 

Because this book is considered “cozy fantasy” I found some parts in the middle boring. I tend to gravitate more towards fast paced epic fantasy.

Halla is an interesting main character. She is older  (36), doesn’t stop talking, and is somehow both strong and an afraid at the same time. 

Sarkis is an interesting MMC. I feel like I’ve gotten him figured out, but we shall see. 

I like the romance and like that the spice isn’t as graphic as some books, like A Court of Mist and Fury, for example. 

Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

Summary

Celaena Sardothien journeys to a distant land where she is forced to confront painful truths about herself and her past. As she trains to unlock her hidden potential, dark forces are rising across the continent.

Meanwhile, new characters emerge, old loyalties are tested, and the stakes grow higher than ever.

Thoughts so far

I’ve just started this book, as in I’m only about a couple chapters in.

So I don’t really have any early thoughts. But I feel like things are starting to really heat up so I am so excited to continue this series!

April TBR

When I started doing these TBR’s at the beginning of the year, I thought doing these was so awkward. 

I hate saying I’m going to do something and then not do it. So as always, I want to read these but might not get to them. 

A Crown So Silver by Lyra Selene – I’ve missed Iran and Fia and can’t wait to see what else happens as the series continues. 

Enchantra by Kaylie Smith – I really enjoyed Phantasm and absolutely cannot wait for Genevieve’s story! (Today is release day, so you know I’ll be sprinting to my local bookstore after work to grab a copy!)

Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas – I’m hoping to finish Heir of Fire in the next week and jump right into the next book in the series. 

Lastly, The Witchwood Knot by Olivia Atwood – I genuinely enjoyed Half a Soul but kinda wanted more romance! This promises more romance with some darker fantasy aspects which sounds right up my alley. 

I know I’ve had A Crown So Silver on my TBR for a couple months, but I am hoping to pair the audiobook with my physical copy to make reading it a bit faster/easier. 

I’ve also been going to bed earlier so I can get up earlier to read. I noticed I was struggling to read before bed because I was busy with content work and preparing for my 9-5 work the next day.

So by the time I got to bed, I’d either go right to sleep and skip reading. Or stay up way too late and then be completely exhausted the next day.

So I’ve been enjoying getting up earlier to have some dedicated reading time before starting my day.
