More Fantasy Romance Book Recs – Part 2

By now I think it’s obvious that I am a Fantasy Romance girlie. While I love other types of stores, no other genre has had me in a chokehold for this long. So I am so excited to share a second part to my original Fantasy Romance recs list!

So with that being said, here is a part two, to the long list of Fantasy Romance books I went absolutely feral over!

Please don’t let my 3 star rating of the first book dissuade you from reading this series! 

Despite my (many & various) complaints, I enjoyed the chemistry between our two main love interests, Emilia & Wrath.

Particularly Wraith. 

I also enjoyed all the food talk in this book, though I do acknowledge that it was a bit excessive. 

And while this book starts off the series on a very YA level of spice. (Only a kissing scene) The rest of the series gets far spicier, which is something I personally enjoyed.

The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller

This book was interesting. I am still in agreement that most readers either love or hate this book. 

Our two main love interests, Alessandra and Kallias reminded me a bit of Cardan and Jude from The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. 

Although Alessandra was a bit more out there when it came to body positivity and such. IYKYK.

And this is a fantasy romance that revolves around bit more around the romance as the world-building kinda doesn’t exist. But I enjoyed the romance aspects quite a bit and could overlook the lack of substance in other areas for this reason.

Powerless by Lauren Roberts

I was a bit hesitant to add this book to the list because of all of the glaring issues with this book if you stop to think about it for even a second. 

But I did quite enjoy it and made a whole reading vlog for it. 

So I think it’s found its spot on this list.

I will also say this book is not spicy in the least. Not even kissing. That’s right. They. Don’t. Even. Kiss. 

However, the slow burn had my skin feeling like it was a million degrees after every interaction with Pae and Kai.

Bow Before The Elf Queen by J.M. Kearl

If you’ve read my review for this series, you will know that I do not acknowledge this series as a trilogy. It is instead a neatly done duology. And the third book simply doesn’t exist to me.

So, with that out of the way, this book laid heavily in the fated mate’s trope. And around the time I read it, I was super into the trope. 

So this book piqued my interest, and I found I really enjoyed it for the most part. It does feel like I’m reading other parts of other fantasy romance books, but always seems to pull me right back in with its original parts. 

I did also quite enjoy our two main love interests, Thane and Layala. Though perhaps Thane a bit more than Layala as she was a bit frustrating at times. 

A solid 4 stars out of 5 stars. 

A Feather So Black by Lyra Selene

This was one of my first ever ARC reads and I was super thrilled to have been approved for it!

I will admit, I struggled heavily to get into this book. Nothing really begins to pick up until around 30% in. 

I considered DNF-ing this book but ended up reading it a second time. Partially for clarification on a few things, but also because I ended up a tiny bit obsessed with the story. 

And while yes, Irian is our 100th Shadow Daddy to be written into a Fantasy Romance; I found him quite interesting. 

He is very much morally grey/borderline true villain and has a tragic backstory. But what I truly love about him is his ability to love Fia. 

And I love Fia for her ability to grow and change and not settle for less than. (Even if it takes her a while to get there.)

This book was also pleasantly spicy, which I was not expecting.

Heartless Hunter by Kristin Ciccarelli

The angst in this book had me in an absolute chokehold. The constant need to know if this chapter was indeed the chapter, whether our main character was going to be found out. 

This story is about witches, love, magic, and complex feelings. 

I disliked the love triangle and the lack of badassery surrounding our main character. 

But I loved the romance, the tension, the slow buildup to the epic ending of this story. 

The ending of this book lives rent free in my head. 

There is a bit of spice with an open door scene, but nothing too explicit.

A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen

I listened to this book as an audiobook and genuinely had such a fun time. 

Our two main love interests, Freya and Bjorn, had me in a chokehold with their slow burn, will they – won’t they, type of push and pull. 

The magic was also interesting and I really enjoyed the bits of mythology thrown in too. 

The cliffhanger had me crying in frustration but this is a book I wish I could go back and read again for the first time. 

4.5 stars out of 5 stars. 

The Ever King by LJ Andrews

The Ever King is a book I stumbled across and ended up absolutely falling in love with.

It is marketed as a dark fantasy romance, but truthfully, if the villain being an actual villain and the one who gets the girl? Then sign me up for more dark fantasy romance!

I wasn’t sure how I was going to take to Eric because I am not a pirate girlie. But I wasn’t a vampire girlie and Raihn converted me. So I guess never say never?

The Ever Seas series is a duology for Erik and Livia’s story, with a third book for Jonas. If you haven’t checked this series out yet, please do! The romance, adventure, and naughtiness made this an instant favorite!

Blood & Steel by Helen Scheurer

The Legends of Thezmarr series is a bit of a new one to me and books you’ve probably seen me talk about on both the blog and my YouTube channel. 

And I love this series so much. 

However, Blood & Steel has so many fantasy romance elements that I love, slow burn tension that is beyond satisfying when it finally fully burns, and a great setup for the next 3 books in the series. 

Thea is one of my favorite FMC’s and Wren, Cal, and Kipp can rival the inner circle any day with how often I was laughing out loud during their scenes together. 

4.5 stars out of 5 stars. 

Honorable Mentions

The Belladonna series by Adalyn Grace deserves much more recognition. 

Belladonna is atmospheric and gothic and also had added elements of mystery alongside its complex plot and characters. 

I also love the author’s ability to draw you in right from the opening lines in both books. 

Foxglove is a fantastic follow up to Belladonna. While we do expand our characters’ POVs with Blythe and Fate, the ending and world-building were executed so well. 

Wisteria publishes on August 20th 2024. And if you think I haven’t already pre-ordered my copy, you would be very wrong.

The Shepherd King series by Rachel Gillig is another criminally underrated series. 

This duology is complete too, so you can dive right in without having to worry about waiting for the release of the next book. 

Ravyn Yew is still top tier book boyfriend material and I absolutely love Elspeth and related to her quite a bit.

And of course, the Nightmare. 

While One Dark Window heavily focuses on Ravyn and Elspeth, Two Twisted Crowns focuses more on Ione and Elm.

The Kingdom of Lies series by Stacia Stark will always hold a special place in my heart because it is the series that cured my ACOTAR reading slump. 

I have yet to read the 4th book which recently published but am excited to read it nonetheless and finish the series. 

Stacia Stark’s penchant for long book titles is the reason each book is linked by its book number in the series. 

Priscia and Lorian are an interesting pair and I really enjoyed the side characters in these books as well. 

There is plenty of drama, intrigue, and romance to go around. 

This series is also known as: The Series That Cured My ACOTAR Reading Slump.
