My Husband’s Wife by Alice Feeney – Twists on Twists on Twists in This Feisty Thriller

I found this audiobook on Spotify while browsing for something under 15 hours – long enough to get invested, but not overwhelming. 

I also liked the narrators right away, which made it an easy yes. 

The premise hooked me immediately: a woman comes home to discover she’s been replaced. That unsettling idea alone was enough to pull me in and keep me listening.

What I Loved

What really worked for me was the pacing. This book moves quickly, which made it easy to listen to during commutes and while cleaning around the house. 

I also thought the audiobook narrators did a fantastic job, they carried the story and helped maintain momentum even when the plot slowed.

Throughout the book, there were a lot of elements that made me pause and question what was actually happening. 

I kept trying to figure out how everyone was connected and what information was being intentionally withheld. 

The characters themselves were interesting enough that I stayed engaged, constantly attempting to piece together the bigger picture.

What Wasn’t My Favorite

This won’t be my favorite Alice Feeney book. While I appreciated the fast pace, there was a lot of inner monologue that felt repetitive and, at times, unnecessary. 

I found myself wishing for more concrete plot development or relevant detail instead of extended internal thoughts.

The spice also didn’t work for me. It felt unnecessary and didn’t add depth to most of the characters. While it made sense for one character by the end, overall it came across as more of a distraction than a meaningful layer of the story.

The dual POV structure also became cumbersome. We would spend several minutes inside one character’s head only to switch to another without much actually happening. 

And while I usually enjoy twisty thrillers, the ending felt like overkill, a twist on top of a twist on top of another twist, which ultimately dulled the impact.

Would I Recommend It?

Yes, with caveats. Despite its flaws, this book was captivating enough that I finished it in just a few days because I genuinely needed to know what was going on. 

If you’re okay with loose ends and want an engaging audiobook for your commute or time at home, this is a solid option.

This book left me feeling slightly unsatisfied. I wish more had been revealed earlier to cut down on confusion, because the premise itself was incredibly strong. 

Instead, a lot of smaller frustrations added up over time. That said, it was still an interesting read, and I remain a big fan of Alice Feeney, this one just could’ve benefited from a bit more refinement.
