Tusk Love by Thea Guanzon – Reading Diary Part 1

Some books just beg to be documented as you read them. I haven’t done a reading vlog in a while but wanted to do one for Tusk Love! 

I also have a part 1 vlog if you’d prefer to watch, but I wanted to share some of my early thoughts and thoughts as I go.

Why I Picked It Up

This book came to my attention initially by social media. I really loved the cover and wanted to know more about it. 

Tusk Love is a mix of DnD meets fantasy romance. And while I know next to nothing about DnD, I know a fair share about fantasy romance, so I was in! 

I went into this book blind, I only read the summary and did some research on DnD. 

Which, to be honest, going into books blind is my favorite way to. 

Initial Impressions

It reminds me a lot of Swordheart by T. Kingfisher! 

I really like the writing style and the dynamic between our two main characters, Guinevere and Oskar. 

The pacing is good, and I’m about halfway through, and so far I like the story. 

The world is interesting, there isn’t a ton of world-building, but I definitely have questions, and I am excited to see where the rest of the story will go. 

As The Story Unfolded

• I am completely fascinated by Guinevere’s abilities.
• I absolutely love Oskar as the main love interest, he’s grumpy but also has some depth
• And mostly, I am just enjoying the ride

Mid-Book Thoughts

While I am invested at this point in the book, it certainly is nothing over the top or fast paced. 

It is very much a “let’s see where this adventure will take us” kind of vibe to the book right now.

I enjoyed Swordheart, so the comparison is not a negative one by any means. 

Where the characters in Swordheart are far older (the FMC Halla is 36) I like that these characters are younger. 

Guinevere and Oskar feel more mature for their respective ages of 20 and 23, but I think I like their dynamic a bit more than Halla and Sarkis (MMC). 

The spice has been trickling in, so I expect that probably when I pick the book back up but so far so good. 

Ending Part 1

Overall, I like the first half of the book. 

And like I said, it’s nothing fast paced or incredibly heart stopping. But it is fun, and I like the characters and the writing and the pacing. 

The world isn’t too big a part of the story but is interesting, nonetheless. 

I am mostly excited to see what happens with Guinevere and Oskar, how her parents will react when she finally reaches them, and what other crazy characters they will run into on the Amber Road. 

Final Thoughts

Overall, Tusk Love has been an interesting ride so far, and I’m so ready to dive into Part 2 and see how it all ends. 

If this first half is any indication, it’s only going to get more romantic and more interesting plotwise from here on out. 

I’m starting to see more development, especially with Guinevere’s character, who started the book very anxious.
