Upcoming Fantasy Romance Releases I Am Excited For

This summer is for the fantasy romance girlies!

So many books are dropping between this summer, I don’t even know how to contain my excitement and which one to even start with first.

*Please also note that none of these books are the first in a series. They are either the last or a second/third book in a series. Links to each book in the series will be underneath the summary of each book.

Books I am obnoxiously excited for (in no particular order):

  • The Mist Thief by LJ Andrews
  • Reckless by Lauren Roberts
  • Shadows & Storms by Helen Scheurer
  • A Queen This Fierce & Deadly by Stacia Stark
  • The Darkness Within Us by Tricia Levenseller
  • Wisteria by Adalyn Grace

The Mist Thief by LJ Andrews – June 30, 2024

The Mist Thief by LJ Andrews is the third book in The Ever Seas series. This book takes the focus off of our main pair Livia and Erik, but instead focuses on Jonas and Skadi.

And I am so. Here. For. It.

I’ve been receiving little snippets from the queen herself, LJ Andrews in her email newsletter and the anticipation has been building. We have come to know Jonas as the flirtatious bad boy throughout Livia and Erik’s story, so it will be incredibly fascinating to see a whole different side to him.

Summary from Goodreads

She tried to kill him, so he made her his wife.

Skadi first met her husband-to-be with blades in hand on the opposite side of a battle. She lost, and he claimed his prize.

To her horror, the king of the shadow elven agrees to marry her off to Jonas, a prince in the fae realms, as a way to unite their kingdoms against a shared enemy—the light elves. Skadi knows the marriage is nothing but a political game. Feelings won’t come into play.

Except her new husband makes not falling in love . . . challenging.

When new threats arise, Skadi must decide to either love her enemy, or keep him alive by betraying him to another.

Welcome to another installment in the Ever Seas world where pirates, fae, and elves collide with Vikings in a dark fantasy romance between a morally gray cinnamon roll and the broken princess who steals his heart.

*This book is a standalone with a guaranteed HEA, and can be read before The Ever King/Queen, but to see the full impact of their story, it’s recommended to read that duet first. This series is set in the same world as the bestselling Broken Kingdoms series, but can be read independently, and readers are encouraged to read the list of triggers inside.*

Reckless by Lauren Roberts – July 4, 2024

Reckless by Lauren Roberts is the second book in The Powerless Trilogy. This book seems like it will pick up right where it left off but with so much more chaos and heartbreak in store for our main characters Pae and Kai.

There is also a shorter novel (a novella if you will) that can be considered book 1.5 in the series titled Powerful that is based on Pae’s best friend, Adena.

I am hoping that this book runs because the first book was definitely only walking. This series has so much potential and I am absolutely dying to find out what happens next!

Summary from Goodreads

The second heart-racing instalment in this bestselling and sizzling fantasy romance trilogy. Perfect for fans of Red Queen and The Hunger Games.

The kingdom of Ilya is in turmoil…

After surviving the Purging Trials, Ordinary-born Paedyn Gray has killed the King, and kick started a Resistance throughout the land. Now she’s running from the one person she had wanted to run to.

Kai Azer is now Ilya’s Enforcer, loyal to his brother Kitt, the new King. He has vowed to find Paedyn and bring her to justice.

Across the deadly Scorches, and deep into the hostile city of Dor, Kai pursues the one person he wishes he didn’t have to. But in a city without Elites, the balance between the hunter and hunted shifts – and the battle between duty and desire is deadly.

Be swept away by this bestselling, kiss-or-kill romantasy trilogy taking the world by storm.

Shadows & Storms by Helen Scheurer – June 20, 2024

Shadows & Storms is the fourth and final book in The Legends of Thezmarr series by Helen Scheurer. Within the last three books, we have gone on a journey (to put it mildly) with our leading lady Althea (Thea) and our broody love interest, Wilder.

This series also has one of my all-time favorite cast of side characters. Cal and Kipp’s humor live rent free in my head and I like to think they’d either pat me on the back or slap be upside the head (in a joking way) for some of the quips I have come up with since meeting these two within the pages of this series.

I genuinely am so excited to see how this ends and the author has announced that she is working on a new series set within the same world! I have an inkling who the next pairing will be about and I am so EXCITED!

Summary from Goodreads

“She was ready to shed blood, ready to take back what was hers.”

The time has come to make one last stand against the forces of cursed men and monsters. But Thea’s enemies are only getting stronger. With allies divided and an outnumbered army, she must race against her own fate to secure the future of the midrealms – or die trying.

A prophecy is looming, and Thea’s life is in the balance. Does she have the power to cheat death itself?

Love and loyalty will be tested. Bonds will fracture forever. But all must fight for a better world.

In the final war for survival, will Thea and Wilder emerge victorious? Or will the shadows consume them at last?

Fans of Fourth Wing, The Witcher and The Bridge Kingdom, brace yourselves for sizzling romance, found family and heart-pounding battles in Shadow & Storms, the epic finale to The Legends of Thezmarr.

A Queen This Fierce & Deadly by Stacia Stark – May 30, 2024

Okay, excuse me while I go scream into the void for not realizing this was MAY and not JUNE! I thought my Kindle was having a glitch when I saw it ready to read the other day.

Anyway, I have a bit of catch up to do with this series as I have only read the first two books. But this series cured by ACOTAR induced reading slump and that alone means this series deserves high praise!

A Queen This Fierce & Deadly is the fourth and final book in The Kingdom of Lies series.

I am very much ready to get back into this series and have my heart ripped out of my chest and stomped on once again by Stacia Stark.

Summary from Goodreads

The price of love is loss.

We all pay it eventually…

In every life…

Some moments are too painful to be endured.

Some moments will break you if you let them.

And yet I can’t afford to let anything break me. Because we have one chance to win this war. One chance to create a better life for everyone across the four kingdoms.

Even as our enemies ally with each other, and our own allies are forced to betray their kingdoms, their people…and themselves.

And even as Regner plans something so cruel, so wholly evil, he’s poised to douse the last remaining spark of hope in this world.

Unless we kill him first.

The Darkness Within Us by Tricia Levenseller – July 9, 2024

The Darkness Within Us is the second book in The Shadows Between Us series, which is also the name of the first book.

You either loved Alessandra and the Shadow King in the first book or despised them. There genuinely doesn’t seem to be much of an in between.

The Darkness Within Us, however, focuses on Alessandra’s sister, Chrysantha.

And Chrysantha seems to be just as conniving, intelligent, sarcastic, and witty as her sister is. So this book should be a fantastic follow up to The Shadows Between Us.

Summary from Goodreads

Chrysantha Stathos has won.

By hiding her intelligence and ambition behind the mask of a beautiful air-headed girl, she has gathered important secrets, earned her father’s constant care, and become a wealthy duchess—all by age nineteen. Now, she is only one elderly, dying duke away from having all the freedom, money, and safety she’s ever wanted.

Or so she thought.

Turns out her little sister somehow snatched the true victory away from her: Alessandra is wedding the Shadow King, the most powerful man in the world. Meanwhile, after the death of Chrysantha’s no-good, lecherous husband, a man claiming to be the duke’s estranged grandson turns up to inherit everything that should be hers.

Chrysantha is enraged. There is no way that she’s going to let some man take everything from her. Never mind that he’s extremely handsome and secretive and alluring with mysterious powers… No, Chrysantha wants Eryx Demos dead, and in the end, a Stathos girl always gets what she wants.

Wisteria by Adalyn Grace – August 20, 2024

Wisteria is the third book in the Belladonna series. The summary is not yet out for this book but considering how Foxglove (the second book) ended; I am so excited to get back to Signa, Blythe, Death, and Fate!

So while we still have quite a while until this book not only gets its summary but is published, there is still plenty of time to dive into the first two books if you haven’t already read them!

If you have, then I feel your pain. The upside is that Adalyn Grace has always published this series at the end of August, so her consistency is something to be appreciated.

I have no doubt there are some books I might have missed on this list. This list is really just a general overview of some series that I am ecstatic to continue reading this summer!

Do you have any upcoming books you’re excited to read? If so, let me know!
