Weekend Book Haul: Fantasy Romance & Cozy Fantasy Finds

Lately, I have been craving two very specific types of stories: fantasy romances with heavy romance subplots (the spicier the better) and cozy, low-stakes fantasies that feel like a warm spring day in a cottage.
So off I went to the bookstore. I had no real plan when I went, but that made my venture through the bookstore feel all the more like a tiny adventure.
But as usual, I left with one or two extra books. This weekend’s mini haul ended up landing perfectly between the two moods I’m wanting to read in, so I’m excited to share what I picked up!
Dragonfall by L.R. Lam
🐉 Spicy dragon shifter fantasy romance pick.
Summary: A powerful dragon is resurrected into human form and sent to infiltrate the world of humans and their gods.
But when he forms a forbidden bond with a mortal thief, their connection could either save or doom both worlds.
Why I grabbed it: This one has been on my radar for a while now. Mostly because of the dragons, but I’ve heard it leans a bit steamier in the romance department and that’s exactly what I’m looking for.
While I have seen mixed reviews online and I’m new to shifter romances, I’m excited to see for myself how the world building and romance play out.
The cover is also stunning and so I decided its time to add it to my May or June TBR.
Quicksilver by Callie Hart
⚔️ Dark, tension-filled fantasy romance.
Summary: In a land where power and secrets rule, a rebellious young woman finds herself entangled with a dangerous man whose magic – and motives – may be more twisted than she expected.
Why I grabbed it: I saw this book go viral a while ago. My sister-in-law even messaged me asking if I had read it yet.
But I am wary of Booktok books and so I decided to hold off. But the more I see online, the more curious I am to read it.
I did sample a copy and found the main character’s sarcasm to be right up my alley and so I was sold. Let’s hope this ends up being another fantasy romance favorite!
Greenteeth by Molly O’Neil
🌿 Cozy fantasy with eerie, folklore-inspired undertones.
Summary: A young woman returns to her childhood town after the loss of a loved one. Only to find herself drawn into the quiet, magical mystery rooted in the local folklore. And the dangerous waters just beyond the shore.
Why I grabbed it: This one I noticed when it was first published. I had read a few pages in the bookstore and actually borrowed a copy from my library.
But I only got a few chapters in before I needed to really prioritized the books I had already started and so I decided to revisit this one.
This story is giving more focus on the characters, atmosphere, and magic that gently unfolds. So this one is definitely being saved for a rainy day.
Heavenly Bodies by Imani Erriu
✨ Lyrical, dreamy, and surreal fantasy.
Summary: A celestial being falls to Earth and begins unraveling the stories, and secrets, of the people it encounters. Weaving together a tapestry of magic, longing, and the unknown.
Why I grabbed it: I don’t know much about this one. But something I keep seeing pop up online is the “lyrical writing”. So this can go 1 of 2 ways.
- I thoroughly fall in love with this story
- Or the writing completely kills it for me
There really isn’t any in between, but I am hoping it’s not the latter. So I’m going into this one thinking more about the experiences (or vibes if you will) rather than think too heavily about the plot.
Final Thoughts
This little haul turned out to be mostly fantasy romance heavy, but I did my best to keep it balanced.
I’m excited to add these books to my TBR, but I am definitely going on a temporary book buying ban during the summer while I read what I have.
And also supporting my local library more often.
