What I’m Loving Lately: Summer 2024

This summer felt like a corporate girlie edition because I felt like I spent all summer in the office. Despite feeling like I avoided the heat as much as possible, I definitely still found some new mini-obsessions!

Books

Wisteria by Adalyn Grace

The trilogy is now complete! I was so sad to finish this series. I have enjoyed uncovering mysteries, falling in love with the unluckiest of characters, and rooting for our uniquely interesting main characters.

The Legends of Thezmarr by Helen Scheurer

Another four book series that I had so much fun reading! Blood & Steel is a fantastic introduction to the world of Thezmarr. Thea has an interesting background, and this series contains my absolute favorite cast of side characters ever! 

Seriously, if you can find side characters, I love more than Cal and Kipp. I will be truly in shock.

TV/Movies

The O.C.

Me watching The O.C. and actually liking it was definitely not on my 2024 bingo card, but here we are. 

It’s giving milder 90210 but I am enjoying the first season so far. There’s plenty of drama to go around, but it doesn’t feel as intense as some other teen drama shows which I find I really like a lot. 

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

My boyfriend and I went to see this fantastic follow up to the original Beetlejuice and had a lot of fun! 

Delia’s humor in this movie was definitely a highlight, and I loved seeing Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega acting together. 

While not my favorite movie of 2024, I definitely had a good time. 

Music/Podcasts

In the spring I was obsessing over The Tortured Poets Department (and found it kinda weird out that it was mostly about Matty Healy) and now I am completely obsessing over Short’ n Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter! 

It has a very different vibe from The Tortured Poets Department, but I love Sabrina Carpenter’s style and our sense of humor is quite similar. 

Also, we’re both May Taurus’s and I love that for us. 

I still am knee deep in my true crime podcasts. I haven’t really tried to expand outside of my comfort crime shows. 

But I am still very much open to recs! Especially on topics about books and/or entrepreneurship. 

Mindset/Health

Summer 2024 has been the season of the Pomodoro!

At the beginning of the summer, I downloaded an app called Focus Traveller (no space but autocorrect is driving me nuts) and I love it!

I love setting the timer and, once I am done with my work, watching how far my little character has gone. 

Right now I am using the free version but am heavily considering upgrading as I genuinely am enjoying using this app and feel it has lessened my anxiety around work. 

Specifically, my anxiety around content work. My 9-5 went through some rough changes this summer with the loss of a few key people and I’ve been doing the work of 2 people. 

The thought of coming home mentally drained from work and then trying to workout, get content work done, and be my best self, felt more like a nightmare than anything else.

So putting on a pomodoro and seeing how much I can get done in less time than I thought has really improved my mindset about content work, as well as made it easier to be more productive without forcing myself. 

So even though I am in dire need of a good “touching grass” session, summer 2024 wasn’t too lacking.
